Saltram House Fun Run

Saltram HouseIt’s Saturday 20 September …. welcome to the newest Fun Run on the block !

TASTE supporters in Plymouth are meeting together in the picturesque setting of Saltram House to raise funds for the community in Rahwol Chom.

The difference between Saltram House and the houses in Rahwol Chom could not be bigger!Rahwol Chom

Rahwol Chom is  a poor Rural Community in Central Nigeria which needs a clean water supply as their two existing wells are not sufficient to meet the needs of its population. During the dry season there are long queues as one of the wells always dries up. The problem of long queues is exacerbated by the community being situated close to Plateau State Polytechnic which has a large student population.

This Fun Run is part of the fund-raising activities that will result in the construction of two hand pump operated boreholes which, as well as serving the needs of the local community and supporting local construction businesses, will benefit current students and help attract prospective students.

We really need you to get your friends involved with sponsorship and by far the easiest (and least painful) way is by setting up a Justgiving page.  That way, you just need to e-mail your friends and they can get out their plastic and support you …job done!  And, help to allow you to make the most of the Justgiving resource is here.

But, if you’d prefer the original face:face ask, then we’ve got a downloadable sponsorship form below:

Fun Runs boost funds

Some years we have struggled with the damp and cold.  This year it was red-hot ….. at least in Sheffield.  And our faithful supporters were, as always, up to the challenge.

Our North wales event has been going for about half the time of the Sheffield event but, in terms of income, it is closing in fast on ‘big brother’.  Our supporters that covered the 5k in Wrexham have so far raise £970.  If only another form would arrive with thirty quid!

In Sheffield, on probably the hottest fun run of the last 10 years, our Patron Dan walker was amongst the runners who raised £2600.  Special mention to the X-Cel team who, as you can see form our picture, turned out in strength.

An Evening Of Success With Dan Walker & Jessica Ennis

We would like to thank our Patron, Dan Walker, for hosting An Evening of success with Jessica Ennis last November at Sheffield City Hall. It was a resounding success much acclaimed by all who attended. We would also like to say a huge THANK YOU to all who supported the event – you have made each charity over £7,000 the richer or in TASTE reckoning 2 community boreholes richer.

What’s your excuse for not going to work?

I’m not sure how many people celebrated Andy Murray’s Wimbledon final appearance last night.  One thing is certain, a few ‘sickies’ will have been taken today!  But spare a thought for our guys who are trying to drill boreholes in Jos.

On Saturday, fresh violence broke out in Plateau State.  The scene of the violence was nine villages in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area.  In the last couple of years, our drilling team has completed a number of boreholes around Barikin Ladi.

Gunmen, who also made use of explosives, reportedly attacked the villages in the early hours of Saturday.  The suspicion is that a Fulani group carried out the attacks in retaliation for the arrest of Fulani men suspected to have killed a policeman.  Inhabitants of one village ran to the church and sheltered in the house of the Pastor, where they were cornered and murdered.

Fifty bodies were later recovered!

On Sunday, during the mass burial, gunmen attacked mourners and claimed even more victims!

Is it any wonder that Jos is described as “tense” this morning?  Is it any wonder that Tim instructed our guys to stay at home?

Please pray that peace will return to Plateau and that those bereaved will be comforted.
